Olde Idlewild

Olde Idlewild

Olde Idlewild is the historic heart of the park, where generations of families have shared smiles, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Originally established as a picnic ground along the Ligonier Valley Rail Road, Idlewild has grown into a beloved amusement park that still honors its roots as a place to relax, gather, and enjoy time together.
Rather than towering mega-thrills, Olde Idlewild celebrates classic rides designed for families to enjoy side by side. From the beautifully restored 1931 Merry-Go-Round to the twists and turns of the Wild Mouse coaster, this area offers timeless attractions that appeal to all ages. Guests can soar high on Paratrooper or Flying Aces, spin and laugh on Round Up and Tilt-A-Whirl, or enjoy classic family favorites like Balloon Race and Scrambler—all while surrounded by the charm of a park that feels comfortably familiar.
Beyond the rides, Olde Idlewild’s laid-back atmosphere sets it apart. Shady trees, peaceful lakes, and Loyalhanna Creek winding through the park give this area the feel of a scenic state park as much as an amusement park. Benches line the midways, picnic groves invite families to pause for lunch, and the pace encourages guests to slow down and savor the day.
Nostalgia and modern fun blend seamlessly here, with historic touches like the original 1878 train station standing proudly alongside newer attractions and experiences. Add in live entertainment at the Hillside Theater, and Olde Idlewild becomes more than just a place to ride—it’s a place to reconnect, relax, and create new traditions built on more than a century of memories.
